What is Leadership In Direct Selling?

In the words of Chief, whether you like it or not, you are part of a team when you’re more than one person. Everyone in your circle of influence is a team, as is your immediate family, your circle of friends, your workplace, or even your QNET family (however small). And therefore, leadership in direct selling is the only stable path to long-term success.
1. Leadership Is A Necessity
As Dato Sri Vijay Eswaran told him when he was just starting out his direct selling journey, leadership is not a choice. It’s a responsibility that you have to take up at some point in your life. Achieving a dream requires a team, and a team needs a leader. Success is impossible without embracing leadership skills as a non-negotiable in your direct selling journey.
2. Leadership Gets You Out Of Complacency
It is human nature to want to stay in your comfort zone all your life. People will not move and perform until a leader motivates them to go out and stop being complacent. Chief talks about how when he started, he was so focused on the results and enjoying his success that he did not focus enough attention on the network. He forgot his responsibility as a leader. Then one day he had an epiphany that he needed to change and stop being complacent. He accepted his responsibilities, and that is what made his success so much more fulfilling.
3. Leadership Is Motivational
When Chief was just starting out in his direct selling journey, Dato Sri Vijay Eswaran told him that every team needs a leader. A leader is necessary to affirm to the team what they already know, to educate them on what they don’t know, to show them their limitless potential, to correct them, to quell their ego, to inspire them during tough times, to be a shoulder to cry on. These are all fundamental traits to inculcate into your leadership style.
Characteristics Of A Great Leader

According to Chief, there are 7 key characteristics of a great leader. He encourages us to nurture these traits within us so that when it comes to leadership in direct selling, we are experts.
1. Clarity Of Where They Want To Go
A great leader has a goal and a vision. They understand their destinations and the path they have to take to get there. They have a dream that is bombastic, unbelievable, and real. Whatever the goal is, they believe it deeply, and all the actions they take feed towards making that come true.
2. Ability To Communicate

Communication is not a reflection on your ability to hold a mic at a V-Convention. You don’t have to be a great speaker but you must be a great communicator. All great leaders are able to articulate their desires clearly, simply, and passionately in a way that makes your team believe in that dream too. It’s not what you say what matters, it’s how you say it, and how often you are in touch with your team.
3. Practising What They Preach
As a leader, your way of life should be aligned with what you tell people to do. A leader is defined by who you are and how you live. Your work ethic, your hard work must be reflected in how you live otherwise it’s hard for people to follow you. It’s not about richness but about being a product of your product. If you want your downlines to stick with you for the long haul, you must walk the talk. In QNET, this means that you keep doing Presentación no matter how high you get in the Achievers’ Club. Leadership in direct selling is all about doing the things you tell your team to do.
4. Being Truly Caring
We are in a business where not everyone is going to be successful in just three months. Some people take longer than others. No two people are the same. Your downlines are unique, different, and have diverse challenges. You have to care for them and demonstrate this care. Be there for them and show commitment to them. Establish that relationship of faith and trust. Care doesn’t mean empathy and sympathy. It doesn’t mean consoling someone and allowing them their weakness. It means you get them out of their comfort zone and give them a reality check. But it’s important to do this with love. Be there for them regardless of whether they’re beginners or top earners. Care is practicing Active Listening. To be a great leader, you need to listen more than you speak. Care is being there on the rainy days, not just the sunny ones. You got to make changes and make sacrifices. Nothing good ever comes free. Deprioritize yourself and prioritize your team. That’s what true caring is.

5. Earning Their Team’s Respect
Leadership is never a position of authority anymore. If they don’t respect you, they will not follow you. What’s the point of having a title if no one follows you or respects you? Leadership is about the strength of your relationships. How strong a leader you are depends on your relations with people. Earn their respect. Don’t demand it. Earning respect takes time, relationship building, and trespass.

6. Showing Interest In The Success Of Others
The true success of a leader lies in how many people you have helped become successful, how many people’s potential you have unlocked, how many people you help grow. Don’t be selfish, be selfless. Servant leadership. Let your legacy be what others say about you.
